I took a picture with a blackberry, and sent it as an e-mail directly to iowaartsandcrafts.ning.com, where it posted immediately. I CC'd to my e-mail, so I have a copy there, too. The "send as e-mail" upload took a bit of time.

If you are in a super-big hurry to get a picture on the internet, post it to facebook instead. facebook not only uploads images a lot faster, but they are more likely to be seen by people who know you personally, and will take more interest than the general internet public, especially on an obscure web site like this one.

But if you aren't uploading images of police abuse under duress, and you want to instead build up an online photo album of cool pics you take with your blackberry or other mobile, there is a really easy way to do it, once you are set up.

Once the photo is mailed to iowa arts and crafts, it will display to the public, only your friends, or only yourself, depending on your settings.

Join Iowa Arts and Crafts. Click "Settings" in upper right hand corner. Scroll to the very bottom, and you will find your Iowa Arts and Crafts e-mail address.

If you e-mail a photo and the upload fails, verify the e-mail address entered. It's common to forget to add the extra characters to your username, or forget to add the domain (ning) or sub-domain (iowaartsandcrafts). Be sure to save after any changes are made.

After correcting any errors, e-mail the photo again.

You can edit the title and description, tag it, geo-locate it, rate it, comment on it, etc. after the picture is on iowa arts and crafts.

If you are in a big hurry, you can skip renaming your photo from the default file name, and just get it uploaded as quickly as possible.

But if you are not in a hurry, you can edit your photos file name with 3 to 4 keywords to form a title, and it won't be as necessary to go and edit your photos later.

By integrating your user-name or real-name into the file name, you are making it a bit more difficult for others to jack your work. It's not fool-proof, but it is time consuming for them.

By integrating a few tags-tagwords into the file name, you are helping search engines know the content of the image.

Lastly, the sooner you edit your photos file name, the less work you (or others) have to do later. default file names don't help much.
